Office closure for repair work

Excuse our dust! The RWMWD office is in the midst of a drywall repair project. The next phase of the project requires us to vacate the public office areas, including the reception area and Board room. To accommodate this, the office will be closed on Thursday December 5th and Friday December 6th. Staff will be available to respond to calls and email, and can arrange alternative access to the office. Please call the main office number at 651 792-7950 if you need assistance.

About Us

Serving the metro since 1975

We work to preserve and improve water resources and related ecosystems in the eastern Twin Cities metropolitan area. Partnering with the 12 cities in our district, we manage about 65 square miles that eventually drain into the Mississippi River, including 20 lakes, five streams and over 1,000 wetlands.

Keller Golf Course

Ecological restoration work on Maplewood’s Keller Golf Course earned Project of the Year honors from the Minnesota Association of Watershed Districts at the organization’s annual meeting this past December. Our 15-year partnership with Course Superintendent Paul Diegnau has created substantial urban wildlife habitat on this Ramsey County course while protecting the Phalen Chain of Lakes from runoff.

Instagram post 2178092690817981234_256637704 Last night, we held our annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner to honor several community members that have done outstanding work to preserve and improve our watershed.
We were truly honored to present Scott Ramsey with the Roger Lake Stewardship Excellence Award. This award recognizes those who have demonstrated a high-level of dedication and leadership in watershed and natural resources stewardship over a long period of time.
To Scott, and all of the other award recipients - we thank you!  Your passion, determination & leadership have come together to made a measurable impact on our environment and in our watershed. As an environmental community, we are making amazing progress - Quality Water for Quality Life! #RWMWD

Instagram post 2177866607120152023_256637704 How can you contribute? At home, consider using just what you really need - on driveways, sidewalks & steps, and do your best not to overapply salt. Also, take a minute to learn about salt alternative, such as organic Salt-free Deicer, pickle brine, alfalfa meal, sugar beet juice, sand, ash, or coffee grinds. If you hire out snow removal/salting services, ask if they are Smart Salt certified. If you would like to learn more, visit pca.state.mn.us, cleanwatermn.org, stopoversalting.org & rwmwd.org - it’s time to take action! #RWMWD

Instagram post 2177191726175132981_256637704 What is being done?
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is working on a statewide chloride management plan.
Local watershed districts are working diligently with cities and other partners to provide Smart Salt training, which will educate, increase awareness and ultimately reduce the amount of salt applied to roads each winter.
A coalition has been formed to support statewide legislation aimed at reducing salt use by commercial applicators.
RWMWD closely monitors lakes and streams within our district to determine salt concentrations over time.
Tomorrow, we will discuss how YOU can contribute to unifying these community-wide efforts, stay tuned! #RWMWD

Instagram post 2175734120859219141_256637704 Birds of prey are keeping a close eye on migrating waterfowl within our watershed district. We were fortunate to be able to document an attempt made by a bald eagle who left empty handed on Gervais Lake. If you haven’t already, we highly recommend you bundle up, walk the shore, and experience this for yourself. There’s not much time remaining, ice is quickly covering the lakes! #rwmwd
